Using Lists to Help with Overwhelm

I was searching for something on Pinterest the other day and came across this pin that said 19 lists to make when life gets overwhelming.

I’m a list-maker so I was intrigued.

When I’m overwhelmed I usually make a list of things I need to get done and prioritize them. For some reason this is calming to me and helps me focus on what I can do instead of worrying about all I need to do.

The blog post that the pin lead me to was a little more than just a to-do list. The author created a list of lists to make when life gets overwhelming. I’ve never thought of making other lists.

Some of her list ideas include:
A feel-good playlist
Self-care ideas
What you grateful for this week
All the things you’ve accomplished in your life so far
Things you want to learn
TV shows to binge-watch
Your birthday wish list
Your favorite people and why
You can check out her whole list here.

Even though I’m not feeling overwhelmed right now, I thought it would be fun to make one of her lists. I chose A house renovation or repair list because I’ve been thinking a lot about what new things we can do to our home. Some simple and some not so simple.

A House Renovation/Repair List
–new couches
–window treatments throughout house
–carpet cleaned or replaced
–new desk or paint current desk
–new computer
–update family pictures
–replace kitchen flooring
–new kitchen towels
–new décor in dining area
–replace counter tops in kitchen
–paint walls
–re-do back yard
–grow a larger garden
–clean bedrooms
–replace shower in kid bathroom
–new towels in kid bathroom
–fix master bath
–new mattresses for each bed
–fill in rocks in front yard
–our family mission statement on the wall

This is just the beginning of home repair list. I bet I could come up with a few more things to add if I were to look at some magazines or watch a home improvement show or browse Pinterest.

Do you make lists when you are overwhelmed? What kind of list is your favorite to make?
