    How to Direct Good-Feeling Emotions

I’ve been slowly reading Super Attractor by Gabrielle Bernstein–a chapter a week. There is so much good information to digest. I think I’m going to read it again as soon as I finish, but a little quicker. This morning I watched a video she posted on Facebook. She shared a method for directing good-feeling emotions from chapter 11. I haven’t gotten to that chapter yet, but I loved the concept. I found the part in the book and did the activity with my kids. She suggests doing this activity every morning right after you wake up. Using your journal, write the answers to the following questions: How do I want…

    One Sentence Journal

Today I just want to share an idea with you that I found interesting and want to try to implement myself. The idea was sparked from a combination of things: a podcast about telling a better story, a book that talked about a one sentence journal, and me always looking for ways to make my journaling better and easier. The podcast about telling a better story was an interview with Matthew Dicks. I’ve never heard of him, but I liked what he taught. There is definitely power in being able to tell a good story. Matthew shared a tip to help practice story telling. At the end of each day…

    My Day in a Haiku

I’m the first to confess that I’m not much of a writer. It’s probably because I don’t really enjoy it. It also might be because I’ve defined myself that way. So let me rephrase that first statement. . .The more I write the better I become. I write every day in hopes to get better. I write to remember my day and show gratitude. I write to reflect. I write to get stuff off my chest. I write to help me be more intuitive. But the biggest reason I write is because I want to learn how to express my thoughts better and to inspire others with my words. I…

15 Things I am Grateful For

Part of my nighttime routine is to write a list of things that I am grateful for. I’ve been consistently writing in my gratitude journal for almost a year. I first heard of the idea years ago in “The Slight Edge” by Jeff Olson. He says that writing down 3 different things you’re grateful every day will, over time, make you happier. Through the process of searching for the positive, you begin to rewire your brain to see the world in a different way. You become more aware of the good. I more recently heard about the importance of being thankful from Rachel Hollis when I participated in her last…

Questions to ask During Reflection Time

Well, it’s almost March, and I’m still doing journal prompts pretty regularly.  A recent one prompted me to write about what was going right in my life.  My first response: That one is tough. I feel like most of the things I am doing are only at ¾ strength. Is there anything really going right? I decided to focus on the good, and then pick one thing I can do better. My morning routine is going right. I don’t snooze. I get up, use the bathroom, and get dressed in my work-out clothes. I drink 20-30 ounces of warm lemon water while I do my version of the 5 second…

Journaling to Write Better (free printable)

I’ve mentioned before that I started blogging as a way for me to practice writing. I know that sharing the things I’ve learned is part of my mission, and writing is one way for me to share. This blog is a place for me to share the things I write and it holds me accountable. (Thanks for reading as I learn). I soon realized that I needed more writing practice. As a homeschool mom, I’m a firm believer that reading and writing make you a better writer. I am already a strong reader, so I decided to start writing in a journal every night. I’ve kept journals off and on…
