The Last 90 Days Challenge 2019

2019 is almost over, which means the New Year will be here sooner than you think. For most people, a new year means new goals and intentions. It sometimes also means spending the last few months of the year doing whatever you want.

Have you ever decided that your diet would start on Monday then unintentionally (or intentionally) eaten everything unhealthy you could get your hands on because you knew it would be the last time you would be able to eat it? The end of the year is like that—eating junk because you’ll set healthy eating goal in January, moving less because you’ll set an exercise goal in January, or sleeping in because you’ll set a wake up goal in January.

Last year I came across The Last 90 Days Challenge put on my Dave and Rachel Hollis. They recognized this pattern and created this challenge to give people a head start on their new year. Rachel Hollis says, ”Imagine what it would be like to START your New Year on the 20th floor instead of back down in the basement! Imagine how much momentum you’ll have. Imagine how much you’ll accelerate the vision you have for your life if you stay motivated during the time of year when most people are struggling.” She and Dave believe that the last 3 months can be stressful, but having a plan in place will keep you from reaching for bad coping mechanisms and negative behavior.

The foundation for the last 90 days is their 5 to Thrive—5 simple habits that put you in the right mindset and help you feel capable of accomplishing anything. Rachel is a big proponent setting yourself up for success, and the 5 to Thrive practice does just that. It includes drinking enough water (1/2 your body weight in ounces), getting up 1 hour earlier and using the time for yourself, giving up one category of food, moving your body for 30 minutes every day, and practicing daily gratitude (writing down 10 things you are grateful for every day). Check out this tracker Jenna Meyers (from The Last 90 Days community) made. It’s great way to stay accountable.

I love getting a group of friends together and cheering each other on. Community is a big part of success. Surrounding yourself with the right people (those who are positive and striving to be better) can be a great inspiration. I notice that I eat better when I’m with people who eat healthy. When I get around my friends who are reading good books, we talk about big ideas. Proximity is power.
