7 Christmas Books to Add to Your List

Here are a few of the books we have read and re-read over the years.

The Night Before Christmas by Clement Moore

We tried to memorized this story once. This Christmas classic was first published anonymously in 1823. It tells the story of St. Nicholas climbing down the chimney and filling all the stockings before springing back to his sleigh.

The Best Christmas Pageant Ever by Barbara Robinson

A fun story about a mom who directs the church Christmas pageant and is joined by the Herdman siblings, or “the worst kids in the history of the world.” Christmas magic abounds as they hear the Christmas story for the first time and imagine it in their own way. “This year’s pageant is definitely like no other, but maybe that’s exactly what makes it so special.”

A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens

A story we like to revisit every year or so. A timeless tale of Scrooge’s transformation from miser into generosity.

Christmas Jars by Jason Wright

This book inspired many a service project for our family. It is the story of a secret holiday tradition: money-filled glass jars anonymously given to people in need.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas! by Dr. Seuss

Another classic story that shows the effects of the Christmas spirit on a heart that was “four sizes too small.”

The Last Straw by Paula Palangi McDonald

I read this for the first time a few years ago and cried. It’s a story of serving those who are mean to us and how it can change our heart.

The Life of our Lord by Charles Dickens

This is the story of the life of Jesus, written for his children.
