10 Things Happy People Do

This list isn’t mine, but the commentary is. I can’t remember where I got it (maybe from a YouTube video we watched during quarantine), but I loved it and had to share. Feel free to add to the list.

Happy People:

1 Surround themselves with happy people. I find this to be true. It’s easy to be happy when those around you are happy. The higher energy of your associations lifts your energy.

2 Try to be happy. I believe happiness is a choice. I love the quote that says “Being negative only makes a difficult journey more difficult. You may be given a cactus, but you don’t have to sit on it.” Try to be happy but raising your eyebrows and smiling. Do something that makes you happy.

3 Have deep in-person conversations. Some of my favorite times are good conversations with people. I love visiting and talking about good stuff.

4 Use music. I use this all the time. When I’m feeling gloomy I turn on a song that I can sing and dance to. I’m feeling better in no time.

5 Workout and have a healthy diet. When you take care of your physical self, your emotional self falls in line quickly after. I workout and eat right because it helps me feel better.

6 Get enough sleep. I’m sure we’ve all had a day following a rough night sleep. It’s so much easier to be grumpy. A good night sleep equals a better attitude.

7 Spend money on other people. I’m not sure how I feel about this one, but I guess there is something happy about watching people enjoy a gift you’ve given them.

8 Meditate. I’ve been hearing a lot about meditation. I don’t practice regularly, but the research shows that the mindfulness aspect of it helps with happiness.

9 Pray. Maybe this one is tied into the fact that people who pray believe in a higher power and therefore have a broader perspective. Russel M. Nelson says, “The joy we feel has little to do with the circumstances of our lives and everything to do with the focus of our lives.”

10 Unplug. Right now social media is filled with a lot of high-tension topics and choosing to unplug can help with your happiness. Along those lines, you can also choose who to follow on your feeds. Choose uplifting people and content that support your happiness goals.

What would you had to the list? What do happy people do?
