10 Easter Traditions to Do With Your Family

This Sunday is Easter, and I’m looking forward doing some of our favorite Easter activities this week.

Do you have Easter traditions? Here some of the activities we have done over the years.

EGG DECORATING

Even as the kids have gotten older, this is an activity that we always seem to do. The old stand-by is dye in water and vinegar, but we’ve also decorated with markers and shaving cream. We might try something new this year or we might just do the vinegar dye.

EXTENDED FAMILY EGG HUNT

My mom and dad like to host an Easter party around this time of year. They hide a bunch of plastic eggs in the backyard and let the grandkids search for them. They will also have some games and crafts for them to do.

EXTENDED FAMILY DAY IN THE DESERT

We actually haven’t done this activity for a while, but it was fun the few times we did. We shot at raw eggs, decorated cookies and enjoyed the warm spring weather.

EASTER BASKETS

This one has changed a lot over the years. Some years we do candy, some years we don’t. We’ve done toys or a family activity or a new water bottle. I like to sometimes still do a family activity. Summer pajamas were a fun thing to include in the basket, too.

EASTER OUTFITS

This is one of my favorite traditions. I don’t if other families do it, but it was something my parents did for us growing up and I carried it on. It is mostly an excuse to get them new church clothes. And I get to take the obligatory picture of them in their outfits.

OTHER TRADITIONS TO CONSIDER

EASTER DINNER

There are traditional Easter foods for breakfast of dinner, and gathering as a family provides entertainment and memory making opportunities.

EASTER THROUGH THE SCRIPTURES

Easter is a time to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Spend time each day of the week leading up to Easter Sunday reading in the scriptures about the experiences that tell the story of Easter.

EASTER CRAFTS

Pinterest is full of Easter Bunny or Easter egg or Spring crafts and activities for the whole family. Spend some time together doing one.

EASTER SERVICE AT CHURCH

Some churches host a special Easter service. Dress in your new Easter clothes and go to church.

EASTER CANDY

Maybe it is a chocolate bunny or jelly beans, but each family usually has a special Easter treat. What is it for yours?

There are probably many more traditions we could include on this list. What are some of the things you like to do to celebrate Easter? Share your ideas in the comments.
